Installing OpenLinux 50 Getting Started Guide Testing the Sound Card While the packages begin to install, the next screen (in Figure 26) lets you test your sound card. (This screen only appears if a sound card is detected.) FIGURE 26.  Check your sound card for digital sound and MIDI playback. The screen notes that a sound card was detected. You can then test these features: • Test digital sound: If digital sound is working on your sound card, you should hear music play when you click on this button. • Test MIDI playback: If MIDI playback is working, music will play on your sound card when you click this button. • Volume and Balance sliders: Adjust these two sliders with your mouse to set volume and balance levels. NOTE: If you have a sound card, but it is not detected, try installing the OSS package. It contains other sound drivers. You can install OSS from the “Windows Tools & Commercial Packages” CD as described later in this chapter.
