Testing the Sound Card
While the packages begin to install, the next screen (in Figure 26) lets you test
your sound card. (This screen only appears if a sound card is detected.)

The screen notes that a sound card was detected. You can then test these features:
•
Test digital sound: If digital sound is working on your sound card, you
should hear music play when you click on this button.
•
Test MIDI playback: If MIDI playback is working, music will play on
your sound card when you click this button.
•
Volume and Balance sliders: Adjust these two sliders with your mouse
to set volume and balance levels.
NOTE: If you have a sound card, but it is not detected, try
installing the OSS package. It contains other sound drivers.
You can install OSS from the “Windows Tools & Commercial
Packages” CD as described later in this chapter.
